Jana does an amazing job of bringing films to our attention. I had a tough time selecting my top five. Having lived in South Africa while I was working, "Invictus" certainly called to me, as does any film with Morgan Freeman. As Gable said of Marlene Dietrich, the voice alone can break your heart.
However, two others call louder at this time in our history: "Wendy & Lucy" because of the soul scarring decisions people have been making during this deep recession. Family can have more than 2 legs. The second is "Avatar" because it symbolizes the powerful's obliteration of the weaker that brings to mind Indian populations of the two Americas.
I probably should see "Precious", but victimization enrages me for weeks at a time. Still, I'm glad someone held up that mirror.

I really love this blog for film reviews, and the focus it has for the Indies too. I often come here to Reel Inspiration just to get insight and also get leads and pointers. The author of this site is very passionate about her work, and I admire this so much. I remember when this first started, and I have been a devoted follower since.

Now, I definitely was so impressed by "Precious." When I was on a business trip to LA in October 2009, I was invited to go to the first screening of the film before it was even going out to theaters, etc. Lenny and Mary were to be in attendance for the Q&A. I ended up being held over down in San Diego and getting one of my business partners from the airport at LAX later that night. I was suppose to be free to go to that event, but missed it! I was so sad. But I finally got to recently see it, and I was so so moved. I love how they brought this girl's life to the screen like this. This was one of my favs of 2009.

As for the Wedding movie with Ann Hathaway; I am not completely sold on that one. I watched it and fell asleep, and I wasn't tired. So, I tried watching it again the next day... and I just couldn't keep my attention on it. I am not sure why this movie didn't keep me on. The story is a great idea etc, but I am thinking it was maybe the structure. Not sure.

I am looking forward to seeing the Paris film, very interested.

My friend and I were recently discussing about the ubiquitousness of technology in our daily lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as memory becomes less expensive, the possibility of downloading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.
